2020 Cuban Olympian Andy Cruz is hoping Keyshawn succeeds in his title challenge against WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14. Cruz says he wants to take the WBO belt from Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) if he wins it. Berinchyk vs. Keyshawn will be shown on ESPN and ESPN+. The event starts at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 a.m. PT.
Andy refers to Davis as “my son” due to his many wins against him. However, he still wants to beat Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) next month. He says he will watch the match.
A History of Dominance
This would be Cruz’s fifth win over Keyshawn. His record is perfect 4-0, and has repeatedly called out the promoted Davis to the Top Rank since turning pro, but with no luck. Keyshawn doesn’t want to lose again, so he makes excuses.
Even if Davis beats Beringchik, he won’t be defending his WBO title against Cruz. This is the last person he would think of fighting because he knows what will happen if they fight.
That would be like Keyshawn giving away the WBO belt. He already said what he hopes to do if he gets his hands on the belt. Davis says he wants to use it to try and lure WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis to a unification fight. This is a dream that has no chance of happening because Tank is focused on fighting popular fighters.
Keyshawn’s excuses for not fighting Andy Cruz
- “He’s not ready yet. He has no followers. His entire fan base is built around me.”
- “This man is not trying to fight me. I will knock him out. He’s just not ready.”
- “We already sent them a contract. I’ve already started live with Eddie Hearn and said to fix the match. I don’t know what else you want me to do (to get Andy Cruz to fight).
I don’t know how Keyshawn could say with a straight face that Cruz isn’t “ready” to fight him when he’s beaten him four times in the amateurs and has looked better than him in the pros. Davis looked poor in his bouts with Nahir Albright and Miguel Madueno. These are the only two semi-decent fighters Keyshawn has fought since turning pro. The rest was a grind.
“my son”
“I think my son has improved a lot. I’m hoping he wins the belt to see if I can take it from him for a 5th time,” Andy Cruz told YSM Sports Mediaresponding to Keyshawn David’s challenge to WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14.
“Of course, I will watch this match. What kind of father wouldn’t watch their son?’ Cruz said when asked if he will watch the Keyshawn vs. Berinchyk fight.
