Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized that Greenland is not for sale President-elect Trump has increased calls for the US to acquire the island.
Frederiksen’s comments to a Danish TV station come as the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., visited Greenland on Tuesday. The journey is a personal one and Trump Jr.’s. he is not expected to meet government officials.
The Danish prime minister said in an interview that Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede “has been very, very clear – that there is a lot of support among the people of Greenland that Greenland is not for sale and will not be for sale in the future.” according to The hill.

She reportedly told Danish television channel TV 2 that Greenland will choose its own future, saying: “We must remain calm and stick to our principles,” while praising the US as an important Danish ally.
In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump said he “heard that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA’.” The Republican added a video allegedly showing a Greenlander asking the US to buy his land.

Trump’s son arrived in Nuuk, the capital of the Arctic, on Tuesday. He met locals, visited cultural sites and made videos for a podcast. The president-elect posted a video showing a plane with the word “TRUMP” landing in Nuuk.
“Don Jr. and my representatives are landing in Greenland,” Trump wrote. “The reception was great. They and the Free World need safety, security, strength and PEACE! This is a deal that has to happen. MAGA. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump also spoke to locals via loudspeaker in a video that supporters shared online.
A well-known source told Fox News Digital on Monday that Trump Jr. “coming in for a quick day trip to record some fun video content for podcasting. He will not meet with government officials or political figures.”
Trump has previously flirted with the idea of buying the territory from Denmark, claiming it is vital to the national security of the United States.

At a news conference Tuesday afternoon at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, the president-elect said again: “Denmark has to give up.”
