Mohamed Salah posts cryptic tweet as contract standoff continues

Mohamed Salah kept the pressure on Liverpool this afternoon by tweeting the big three players who are out of contract at the end of the season.

Salah’s tweet contained no words but was simply a picture of himself, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk with the three free to leave Anfield in June.

The choice of Salah’s photo is unlikely to be a coincidence and continues his public pursuit of a new deal to stay on Merseyside.

No progress, Salah said

The usually shy Egyptian has, on more than one occasion, spoken of the fact that a deal has yet to be agreed and, again last week, said he now expected to leave in five months.

“There is no progress there,” he told Sky Sports prospect of extending his contract. “We are very far from any progress. We’ll just have to wait and see.

“The thing in my mind is if it’s the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say “I was worried or stressed about the contract”?

“Or do you just want to say, ‘I’ve had an incredible season’?” This is in my head. If I ever feel distracted, I remind myself that I want to look back and say I had an incredible season.”

Another trophy

Salah said he hoped to win another trophy during his time with Liverpool, who drew 2-2 with Manchester United yesterday with the 32-year-old scoring one of the goals from the penalty spot.

“My motivation this year was to win a trophy and be a big part of winning that trophy – especially the Premier League,” added Salah, discussing the squad assembled by Arne Slot’s predecessor Jurgen Klopp, whose trophies including Champions League 2018/19. and Premier League 2019/20.

“There’s still half of (this) team left like myself, Trent, Virgil, Alison, Robbo (Andy Robertson). It is necessary for us to win another trophy before we all leave.”
