Getty Images (2)An eight-episode limited series that will explore 1996 the murder of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsay coming to Paramount+. Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen will participate as Patsy and John Bennet Ramsayparents of the child beauty queen whose murder remains unsolved, the streaming giant announced in September 2024.
While Paramount has not announced when filming will begin, it has revealed that production will take place in Calgary, Canada.
“JonBenét Ramsey remains one of the country’s most fascinating unsolved murders,” Jeff Grossmanexecutive vice president, programming, Paramount+, said in a release. “The incredible talent of Melissa McCarthy, Clive Owen and the creative team led by (executive producer) Richard LaGravenese will illuminate her story with the poignancy and nuance it deserves.”

What will the JonBenét Ramsey TV series cover?

The series will cover the Ramsay family before and after JonBenét’s murder on Christmas Eve, 1996. It will focus on John and Patsy’s journey through the loss of their child and the media scrutiny they face during the investigation.
“At the heart of the series is the story of Patsy and John Ramsey – an exploration of the unbreakable partnership of these two complex people – as husband and wife, as mother and father – who have dedicated themselves and their children to building the narrative of a perfect, privileged life , only to be destroyed one Christmas night in 1996,” the release said.
Has the cast been announced yet?

So far, we know that McCarthy and Owen will play Patsy and John, respectively. The series also stars stars Emily Mitchell, Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, Owen Teague, Shea Whigham and Will Patton. Burke’s role has not yet been cast.
“Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen are an extraordinary duo delving into this tragic story that has cast a long, haunting shadow over American culture for nearly three decades,” said Chris McCarthyCo-CEO & President/CEO of Paramount Global, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios.

The limited series will run for eight episodes.
Who Will Produce The JonBennet Ramsay TV Series?
MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios will produce the series Ann Sevitsky (He is presumed innocent) directed four episodes and served as an executive producer. It will work together with the EP Richard LaGravenese (Behind the candlestick), who is also the showrunner.

What happened to the Ramseys after Jon Bennet’s death?

Patsy and John were long suspected responsible for JonBenét’s murder, and a grand jury voted to indict the couple in 1999. However, the Boulder District Attorney never signed the indictment, citing a lack of evidence. They were exonerated in 2008 when advances in DNA testing allowed investigators to determine that DNA found on JonBenét’s body was from an unrelated man, possibly of Latin American descent.
Patsy, who at the time of JonBenét’s murder was in remission from stage 4 ovarian cancer, had a relapse in 2002. and died in 2006. She was 49 years old.
John got married Jan Rousseau in 2011 while they were both living in Utah. They later moved to Michigan, where he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the state House of Representatives.
