Awards season has started early as an 82nd year old Golden Globe celebrated the best performances in television and cinema on Sunday, January 5.

When the nominations were announced in December 2024, Emilia Perez made Golden Globes history as most nominated film in the comedy or musical categories, earning a total of 10 nods. The Brutalist and Conclave followed with seven and six nominations, respectively.

On the TV side, The bear led the pack with five nods, continuing the debate over whether the series is really a comedy. (For some of the usthe answer is clearly yes.) Shogun and Only murders in the building each was recognized four times. The former won in all its categories, while the latter walked away empty-handed.

With roles in both OMITB and Emilia Perez, Selena Gomez received the rare honor of being nominated in both film and television categories in the same year. She confronted Kostar Zoe Saldana, Wickedis Ariana Grande and more for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture and was defeated by Hacks star Jean Smart in the category of Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Comedy.
