Aston Villa have failed in their bid for Flamengo defender Wesley

Aston Villa are looking to improve their defensive unit and have identified Wesley Franca as a target.

The Flamengo defender has impressed with his performances for the Brazilian side and Aston Villa made a bid of around €15m earlier this week. According to Vene Casagrande Flamengo rejected the offer and it remains to be seen whether Aston Villa will present an improved bid for the player.

The 21-year-old right-back could prove to be a quality long-term signing for the West Midlands outfit. It will not only help them improve defensively, but could add a new dimension to their offense down the stretch.

The Brazilian is a superb talent with a bright future and is likely to improve with training and experience. He could develop into a key player for Unai Emery.

Aston Villa need an upgrade on players like Matty Cashand the Brazilian would be a great choice for them. It will be interesting to see if they can secure a deal with Flamengo. Meantime, Cash has been linked to output in recent months.

The Brazilian club are unlikely to let the player leave on the cheap and Aston Villa may have to pay a significant amount of money to complete the deal. Meanwhile, the chance to play in the Premier League will be quite exciting for the 21-year-old defender and he will be looking to test himself at the highest level. He has the technical attributes to do well in English football and will look to establish himself as a regular for Aston Villa if the move goes through.

Aston Villa will be hoping to secure European qualification this season and need to improve their squad. Getting quality players in January will certainly help them finish the season strong.
