Dani Olmo still believes in Barcelona’s plan and is ready to fend off interest from two Manchester clubs, according to his agent Andy Barra.
Olmo’s temporary registration at financially troubled Barca expired on December 31 and La Liga rules state that a player cannot be registered twice in the same season.
Barca have gone to court – they see La Liga as “incompetent” – but have so far been unable to overturn the decision.
It leaves Olmos in limbo but, while technically eligible to leave on a free transfer, Barra insists the Spain international is committed to the Blaugrana.
He told Give Me Sport: “Danny is a Barcelona player and he wants to be a Barcelona player. He has made a great effort in his life to be in Barcelona. It was his wish for a long time.
“Barcelona is the first and last choice! Danny, his father, his family, me, we’re not thinking of any other options.”
New year, new challenges.
Let’s own 2025. 💪🔵🔴— FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) January 1, 2025
The boy from the Olmo area only has eyes for Barca
Olmo was born in the Catalan town of Terrassa and Bara says there is an emotional connection to Barcelona.
He said: “We have never made any career decisions for money. Dani plays football as he loves the game, he made a huge effort to be in Barcelona.
“I am also happy to have Dani at Barcelona, he is one of the best players in the world at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“They made a big effort to bring Dani last summer. We like their work, it is big for the future, one of the best in the world in the coming years. We fully believe that Barcelona will win all the titles in the future, as they did in the (Lionel) Messi era. The player, the family, me. We all wanted Dani to be at Barcelona.”
No interest in moving to Manchester
Olmo has been linked with both Manchester clubs, but Bara believes Barca and La Liga will find some common ground and work out a solution.
“To be honest, I feel calm,” Bara said.
“It could be strange, but I believe in the president (Joan) Laporta, Deco and I believe they will find a solution for Dani. It’s a huge club.
“I think Barcelona will finalize everything and make it.
“La Liga should help them, instead of these reports about Dani not being available for the national team, but I’m sure he will be at Barca for many years. He is happy at the club and Danny wants to be there.”
Unless the matter is resolved quickly, Olmo will play no part in tomorrow’s Copa del Rey clash at Barbastro or the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
