Rashford misses the Anfield clash

Marcus Rashford will miss Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool on Sunday due to illness.

Rashford has not featured for United in the last five games, although he was an unused substitute for Monday night’s home defeat to Newcastle.

“He’s sick at the moment,” boss Ruben Amorim said this lunch. “He doesn’t train. He’ll be out this week.”

The England international has recently spoken of his desire to leave Old Trafford for a new challenge and United are reportedly willing to sell if they can find a buyer.

This, however, could be a problem with Rashford keen to remain in a major European league while his wages mean he is out of reach for the majority of clubs.

There have been reports that the 27-year-old has rejected three lucrative offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia, while he is also not thought to be interested in a move to Turkey.

The Sun claimed this morning that United are exploring a deal that would see Rashford join Napoli in exchange for Victor Oshimen, but such a deal looks unlikely in this window, especially as the Nigerian striker is on loan at Galatasaray.

Amad and Maguire stayed

There was better news for United fans regarding winger Amad Diallo.

The 22-year-old has finally established himself as a first-team regular this season after a highly productive loan spell at Sunderland.

His current contract is set to expire in the summer but Amorim confirmed an extension was “close” while also saying the club would activate the option to extend Harry Maguire’s stay at United by another 12 months.

“We are delighted to continue with Harry,” said Amorim.

“We will activate our option. He has to improve as a leader because we are hungry for leaders on the pitch.”
