‘Afraid of nobody’ – Iwobi hails Fulham ‘brotherhood’ as Cottagers continue to thrive under Silva

Alex Iwobi has described Fulham as “a big brotherhood” and says his team-mates fear no one in the Premier League.

The Nigerian midfielder, who is enjoying an impressive campaign under Marco Silva, believes that a positive atmosphere both on and off the pitch is crucial to the players’ performance.

At 28, Iwobi has already equaled his best Premier League goals tally with five goals, equaling last season’s total with half the season still to play.

Furthermore, the ever-present midfielder has contributed three assists and has been a strong influence on Fulham’s run.

“We really fight for each other,” Iwobi told them BBC.

“You can see it on the field, but off the field what the cameras don’t get is that we really are one big brotherhood.

“It’s a nice environment, the chemistry is really good and I feel like that’s helping us get the results we need.”

Fulham are currently eighth in the Premier League, just three points adrift of fifth-placed Newcastle United, and are on an impressive seven-game unbeaten run.

Iwobi credits coach Silva for encouraging a “sense of unity” that drives the team forward.

“I feel like (I’m) just expressing myself a little bit more,” Iwobi added.

“The coach gives me that permission and freedom to try to get more chances to score. Even if I’m wrong he tells me: ‘Alex, go again.

“Having that confidence from him, (and) having my teammates support me, it makes you feel almost unstoppable. You’re willing to try and do everything on the field.”

Fulham have not finished higher than 10th in the Premier League since the 2011-12 season.

However, with the team performing at such a high level, Iwobi is optimistic about their chances of making it to the European spots.

“We have the players and I haven’t played in Europe for a long time so it’s a dream I want to achieve again,” he said.

“We are not afraid of anyone. We are confident that we can compete with anyone and get three points. The sky’s the limit.”
