New Orleans attack: Search continues for potential Bourbon Street accomplices as state AG vows death penalty

Authorities are still looking for possible accomplices Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who drove a truck into a crowd in New Orleans before being killed in a shootout with police on Wednesday.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill told Fox News that there is evidence that Jabbar worked with accomplices to coordinate the attack, although she and other officials declined to provide details. Jabbar’s attack killed at least fifteen people and injured dozens of others.

“In Louisiana we have the death penalty, and we will carry it out!” Murrill wrote on X.

Jabbar had posted videos on social media declaring his allegiance to the Islamic State before his attack. The FBI’s investigation has now spread to multiple states, although the number of potential accomplices remains unknown.

“FBI Special Agents and our law enforcement partners are currently executing a number of court-approved search warrants in New Orleans and other states,” the agency said in a statement. “The FBI Evidence Response Team continues to process the crime scene to diligently collect all relevant evidence.”

The FBI says it does not believe the driver acted alone. Investigators found weapons and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device in Jabbar’s truck, along with other devices elsewhere in the French Quarter.

A native of Texas, Jabbar had previously served in the U.S. Army. Authorities are still investigating how and when he became radicalized.

Jabbar served in the Army from March 2007 to January 2015 as a Human Resource Specialist and Information Technology (IT) Specialist.

Authorities have already searched an AirBnB in New Orleans believed to be connected to Jabbar. They also execute a search warrant at his primary residence in Houston, Texas.

The attack prompted authorities to postpone the Sugar Bowl on Wednesday night. The sporting event is now scheduled for Thursday evening. Some officials have called for the event to be further postponed.

In the meantime, President-elect Trump called for the CIA to become involved in the investigation, labeling Jabbar “violent scum” and the current government “incompetent and corrupt.”

His statement came after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. It remains unclear whether the bombing, which killed one person, is related to the attack in New Orleans.

“Our country is a disaster, a laughing stock all over the world! This is what happens when you have OPEN BORDERS, with weak, ineffective and virtually non-existent leadership. The DOJ, FBI, and Democratic state and local prosecutors have not done their jobs. They are incompetent and corrupt and have spent all their waking hours unlawfully attacking their political opponent, riot police, instead of focusing on protecting Americans from without and from within the violent Scum that has infiltrated all aspects of our government , and our nation itself,” Trump wrote on social media.

“Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen to our country. The CIA must get involved NOW, before it’s too late. The US is collapsing – there is a violent erosion of security, national security and democracy. Only strength and strong leadership can stop this. See you on January 20. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he added.
