Netflix has cut ties with Girls5eva after saving it from cancellation. The musical comedy premiered on the Peacock in 2021. and followed four women who were part of a girl group. After becoming a one-hit wonder, the former friends reunited later in life to try again for musical success.
Girls5eva was renewed for a second season, but Peacock didn’t pick up anymore seasons. The show moved to Netflix for Season 3, which ended up being its final season.
Sarah Bareilles, Busy Phillips, Paula Pell and Renee Elise Goldsbury makes up the main cast of the series. after its second cancellationPhillips released an emotional statement.
“2024 sure was a hell of a pain. Some more painful than others, tbh. I am forever grateful for this amazing show and these girls who became my sisters5eva, for Netflix giving us a chance to sing together a little longer, and for everyone at Universal and Peacock who rooted so hard for our show,” the actress wrote via Instagram. “And of course, the genius of Meredith, Jeff and Eric and my patron Tina Fey.”
She continued: “I honestly don’t know how or what I would be without this show and the endless joy it brought me through the darkest time of my life. I really love what I do. and sometimes it feels almost impossible. anyway, isn’t that how everything is good in life? love you 5eva❤️.”
Apple TV+ Sunny it was another big TV loss. Based on the 2018 novel The Dark GuideSunny participates Rashida Jones as an American woman living in Japan who receives the gift of a home robot after her husband and son disappear in a plane crash.
“I wish there was a little more awareness of our show. I’m not going to lie,” Jones said The Hollywood Reporter in September 2024 about the reception for her now-cancelled show. “I think (Sunny) finds his audience because people seem to like him and a lot of people talk to me about him. What they (Apple) have is they have really good taste and they put on really good shows.”
The actress credited the streaming service for allows a weekly release. “I know it’s old school and not everyone does it, but I really think the (phased release) format lends itself well to the show,” Jones continued. “I’m sure there are people waiting for the show to start when all (episodes) are out because they’re used to that pace. But I feel like there are a lot of little things that get dropped along the way that you might want to sit with for a while before diving in at the end.”
Jones was also asked about the questions that are still needed to get an answer.
“It’s very much the hope and it’s kind of set up that way, which I don’t think we’re spoiling anything for anybody by saying there are things you’re going to want to know at the end,” she added. “Did you feel like you were left hanging, did you also feel satisfied?”
