Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has revealed his uncertain future will be decided “in the winter” after months speculation linking the soon-to-be free player with a host of elite European clubs.
Kimmich has started every game for Vincent Kompany’s side this season. The versatile Germany international has lined up exclusively in midfield so far, but is also one of the best right backs in the world when he shifted to defense.
Former Bayern Boss Thomas Tuchel regularly used Kimmich in this unfavorable role last season and – more pertinently – spent almost the entire campaign openly calling for a “proper possession No. 6”. Despite being highly regarded by Kompany, the 29-year-old is under contract until June 2025 he has not committed his future in Bayern.
“I won’t wait until the summer,” Kimmich recently told ZDF’s Gym. “I’ll sit through the winter and then try to look at the bigger picture. And make the right decision.”
Kimmich was most often flirted with Barcelona. He has been lined up as a possible replacement for Frenkie de Jong – who has reportedly been found goes on the transfer list – the German playmaker deep lies refused to rule out a move to Catalonia when asked about the matter in October.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also been touted as possible destinations for the series champion.
References since late November have claimed that Kimmich is “closer” to signing a new deal with Bayern than moving elsewhere, but all will soon be revealed by the player himself.
Kimmich will have plenty of time to consider his various options during his time Bundesligahis winter break, which runs between December 20 and January 11 for Bayern Munich. The dethroned German giants climbed back to its peak Bundesliga table and can still automatically qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.
